Social Inteligence – Book Design
The client is publishing a self development workbook and wanted to create a beautiful, high quality book to hold and keep. The original design includes presenting the reader with information, exercises and an easy to read story in each chapter.

The look of the outside cover reflects what is designed on the inside, the following pictures show how this worked.
The colours for the design of the inside have been chosen from the colour wheel, which we divided by how many chapters there are in the book, so that each of the six chapter has its own colour scheme, which is reflected in the use of colour for the tabs and borders. Another aspect is that each chapter has its own image to represent the content of each chapter. The images have been chosen and supplied by the client.
Each chapter is made of a story, technical information, an exercise and an auto reflection page. We made a distinction between these parts by using different typography and different backgrounds, these are then unified across the whole book.
The story part uses a time proven method of a traditional story layout because it’s the easiest on the readers eye, thus using a serif font, a bigger leading between the lines and placed on a white background.
The technical information is all laid out on a light green colour background using a sans serif condensed font, as the information needs to fit in a small amount of space.
The exercise part reflects what the reader has learnt in the technical bit, therefore it uses the same font except the background is a light blue.
The auto reflection page gives a feel of a note book, of which we scanned a blank page as a background and we then used a font which evokes hand writing, to encourage the reader to fill in their own auto reflections.
